Important exception for elm trees:

It is illegal to prune American elm trees between April 1 and July 31 because of Dutch elm disease. This ban is strictly enforced city-wide. We only prune elms during the safe window (August 1 – March 31) unless the City has ordered removal of a diseased tree.
